The airport terminal is where the game takes place. It is the place where the airline managers manage all facets of their respective airlines on both the upper or office level of the airport and the lower or passenger level of the airport.
In Airline Tycoon, the airport (terminal) is located in the "Home Airport" location as selected in the Main Menu of the game. The various locations and interactive objects found in the airport are described below as they appear in the leftmost part of the airport to the rightmost part of the airport.
Found in the leftmost part of the airport terminal, is the Cargo Office where cargo orders originate. Just inside the airport terminal from there is a Museum where used planes can be purchased, and just outside the museum is a vending machine where a Drowning Cow (TM) Energy Drink can be bought. On a couple of missions, a NASA Shop can be found just above the museum, on the upper level where there is ordinarily a model airplane held up with ropes. To the right of the museum is the Last-Minute counter, where higher premium passenger order flights with tighter deadlines can be found. Just above that, on the upper level, is a telescope where players can view their progress in a mission or the total number of transported passengers in freeplay. To the right of the telescope and Last-Minute counter is one of three stairways that connect the upper and lower levels of the airport, and one of three flight status monitors on which players can see the next four scheduled departures and arrivals, and their respective gate assignments. On the side of each of the three stairways is a pay phone where calls can be made to different people and organizations.
On the other side of the leftmost stairwell are the check-in desks where passengers check-in luggage and receive their boarding passes. Above those check-in desks, from left to right on the upper level, are the following offices: the Personnel Office of Sunshine Airways, the main office of Sunshine Airways, the Personnel Office of Falcon Lines, and the main office of Falcon Lines. To the right of the check-in desks is the Air Travel counter where passenger order flights can taken and above it, on the upper level, is an advertising agency where airlines can go to improve their image. To the right of Air Travel is the second of three stairwells connecting the upper and lower levels of the airport, as well as a pay phone. This is followed by the central area of the airport with one of the two sets of escalators with which passengers funnel in and out of the airport. In fact, you can click on an escalator to finish the work day. In this central area there is the second of three flight status monitors and just above it, on the upper level, is a window pane that opens up to a security office, although the security office is only available in Airline Tycoon Evolution and Airline Tycoon Deluxe.
To the right of this central area, on the lower level, is the Petrol Air counter where fuel and storage tanks can be purchased when the counter is staffed, above which is Mr. Uhrig's office (i.e. the Airport Manager's office) where daily meetings are held and branches undergo the bidding process. To the right of Petrol Air is the Duty-Free Shop where various items can be purchased. In between Petrol Air and the shop is thin wall with a fire extinguisher that grants access to a hideout where sabotage can be requested. On the other side of the Duty-Free Shop is a bank where money can be borrowed or paid back or shares can be purchased and sold. To the right of that is a newspaper stand where there is occasionally news about the airlines, followed by restrooms, and Rick's Cafe, the owner of which gives advice and keeps the tycoons up to date about new planes available at the Plane Broker. On the upper level, above these rooms, to the right of Mr. Uhrig's office is the Route Management Board where routes can be rented. To the right of this board are the following offices, from left to right: Phoenix Travel's main office, Phoenix Travel's Personnel Office, Honey Airlines's main office and Honey Airlines's Personnel Office. To the right of these offices is the Plane Broker where new planes can be purchased as they become available.
To the right of all of the aforementioned rooms is the third, and final, flight status monitor, stairwell, and pay phone. This area also has the second of two escalators where airline managers can end their work day. On the upper level, to the right of the stairwell and just above the conveyor belt, is the HiTech Aircraft Design Shop where airlines can create aircraft from scratch, although this is only available in Airline Tycoon Evolution and Airline Tycoon Deluxe. To the right of the conveyor are the gates where passengers board and disembark from planes. Finally, following the gates, just outside the rightmost part of the terminal is the workshop where airlines can address the maintenance of their planes.
Airline Tycoon 2Edit
In Airline Tycoon 2, the airport (terminal) is located in the "departure airport" location as selected before freeplay. In missions, the airport is located in a default location specific to that mission. The various locations and interactive objects found in the airport are described below as they appear relative to the elevator, which is the only access to the two levels of the airport.
Beginning on the upper or employee-only level of the airport, just outside the elevator is a security guard - speak to him to access the Security Office. To the left of the elevator are the main offices of each airline. Their order from right to left is: Imperial Airways, Mogamb Air, Kolibri Travel, and Torro Aero. This area outside of the offices is also referred to as the "Business Area" in the Airport Guide available for purchase at the airport shop. In this area there are two flight status monitors that show the departures and arrivals of various flights, one between the Imperial Airways and Mogamb Air offices, and another between the other two offices. The leftmost area on this level of the airport is a hangar, specifically, Hangar 51 where airline managers can purchase and customize new planes. At the rear of this hangar (on the right side of the screen upon entering the hangar) is a door leading to the Scrap Yard where used planes are sold.
Just to the right of the elevator on the upper or employee-level of the airport is a short hallway that leads to the Airport Manager's office where tycoons can speak with Sig. Usceroni about their airlines and rent routes. To the right of this hallway is another flight status monitor, then the advertising agency where airlines can improve their image, followed by the Designer Agency where airline managers can retrofit the interiors and design the exteriors of their planes. To the right of this agency, in the rightmost part of this level of the airport is the Personnel Office where airlines can manage their staff.
After stepping out of the elevator on the lower or passenger level of the airport, and you will notice two monitors fixed to the elevator shaft, one of them is a flight status monitor. Just to the left of the elevator there appears to be a vagrant or beggar of sorts, squatting outside the Skytrips International Travel Agency where passenger order flights can be taken. Just outside this travel agency, there is also a pillar on which there is a placard with a "C", above which is another flight status monitor. To the left of the travel agency is a bank where airlines can manage their finances, followed by an airport shop where various items can be purchased. Just outside of this shop is a pillar on which there is a placard with a letter "D," above which is another flight status monitor. To the left of the shop is a bar, where tycoons can go for advice and aircraft catering needs.
Just to the right of the elevator on this lower level are restrooms that are inaccessible, followed by check-in desks where passengers check in their luggage and receive their boarding passes. The check-in desks belong to the following airlines (from left to right): Imperial Airways, Mogamb Air, Kolibri Travel, and Torro Aero. There is a flight status monitor above every check-in desk, as well as on a pillar between the Mogamb Air and Kolibri Travel check-in desks, indicated by a placard with the letter, "B". To the right of this check-in area is a security checkpoint. Continue walking to the right, towards the "Arrivals" sign and the monitor next to it, and a tube will pop out of the ground behind a blue sign and a cactus. Click on the tube to access a hideout where sabotage can be requested.
Walk "up" through the security checkpoint to get to the gate area of the airport where there are six additional flight status monitors. The left side of this gate area, near the sign with the letter "E," is also referred to as an "Airline Lounge" in the game manual. In the airport guide available for purchase at the shop, this gate areas is referred to as a "Lounge".
